Practical forestry service from an experienced operator.

Sam Shook is a logger and equipment operator based in Williston, Vermont. He is building SS Forestry Solutions as an independent forestry business serving landowners, farmers, sugarmakers, foresters, and contractors.

Before entering the forestry industry, Sam spent years working on farms, where he developed a practical, hands-on approach to equipment, land, and hard work. In 2017, he completed a logging training program in Maine, where he learned the basics of tree-length, whole-tree, and cut-to-length logging systems.

Since then, Sam has worked for contractors across northern Maine, New York, and New Hampshire. Much of that work involved commercial clearing projects, operating forwarders, and running other heavy equipment. He has also worked with and learned from his uncle, David, who is well known in the Williston area.

Built for appropriate jobs

SS Forestry Solutions is especially well suited for woodlots, sugar bushes, farm forests, field edges, thinning projects, and managed forest stands where careful harvesting, clean timber handling, and efficient forwarding are important.

Thoughtful business growth

Sam’s work is grounded in practical experience, local relationships, and a careful approach to choosing projects that fit the long-term direction of the business.

Cleaner timber handling

Forwarding carries logs out of the woods instead of dragging them, which can help keep logs cleaner and reduce dirt and debris.

Complete cut-to-length system

SS Forestry Solutions operates a Rottne cut-to-length harvester and a 10-ton forwarder. This equipment allows Sam to provide a complete CTL harvesting system, including felling, processing, sorting, and forwarding timber from the woods.

Rottne CTL Harvester

Used to fell and process timber at the stump, allowing wood to be sorted and prepared efficiently for forwarding.

10-Ton Forwarder

Carries wood rather than dragging it, helping keep logs cleaner and making the system useful for many woodlot, farm, and sugarbush settings.

Real equipment. Real work. Vermont settings.

The page uses Sam’s actual equipment and field photos to present the business clearly and honestly.
