Sam Shook is a logger and equipment operator based in Williston, Vermont. He is building SS Forestry Solutions as an independent forestry business serving landowners, farmers, sugarmakers, foresters, and contractors.
Before entering the forestry industry, Sam spent years working on farms, where he developed a practical, hands-on approach to equipment, land, and hard work. In 2017, he completed a logging training program in Maine, where he learned the basics of tree-length, whole-tree, and cut-to-length logging systems.
Since then, Sam has worked for contractors across northern Maine, New York, and New Hampshire. Much of that work involved commercial clearing projects, operating forwarders, and running other heavy equipment. He has also worked with and learned from his uncle, David, who is well known in the Williston area.
SS Forestry Solutions is especially well suited for woodlots, sugar bushes, farm forests, field edges, thinning projects, and managed forest stands where careful harvesting, clean timber handling, and efficient forwarding are important.
Sam’s work is grounded in practical experience, local relationships, and a careful approach to choosing projects that fit the long-term direction of the business.
Forwarding carries logs out of the woods instead of dragging them, which can help keep logs cleaner and reduce dirt and debris.
