About
In the Willsboro and north central Vermont region, if you need forestry work done right, Sam Shook is who you call.
Sam Shook built SS Forestry Solutions around one idea: show up, do the work right, and leave the land better than you found it. In a region where loggers come and go, Sam is the one who stays — and the one landowners call back.
Operating a Rottne cut-to-length harvester alongside a 10-ton forwarder, Sam runs a complete CTL system. That means timber is processed at the stump, forwarded to the landing in sorted piles, and the stand stays clean. It's a different kind of harvesting — more precise, less disturbance, better results.
Sam works with farmers, sugarmakers, forest landowners, licensed foresters, and other contractors. Whether it's a managed woodlot, a field edge that needs cleaning up, or a forester-designed harvest, the answer is the same: Sam can handle it.
Services
A complete CTL system opens up work that conventional whole-tree operations can't handle. Sam takes on the jobs that require precision — and delivers.
The Rottne harvester processes trees at the stump — felling, delimbing, and bucking to spec in a single pass. Precise, efficient, dramatically lower impact than whole-tree methods.
The 10-ton forwarder carries — not drags — sorted wood from stump to landing. Available as a standalone service for contractors who need forwarding capacity on their own jobs.
CTL equipment is well-suited to working around tap trees. Sam understands sugarbush economics — selective work, low soil disturbance, and protection for the trees that generate the income.
Brushy field edges, fence-line clearing, overgrown transitions between open land and timber. Sam's equipment handles the work cleanly without the mess that larger conventional equipment leaves behind.
Equipment
Built for precision forestry — designed in Sweden, engineered for variable terrain. Fells, delimbs, and bucks to custom lengths in a single operation, leaving the stand clean.
Carries processed wood from stump to landing — sorted by species or grade on the way. Soil stays intact, residual trees undamaged. Available as a standalone forwarding service.
Harvester and forwarder together form a complete CTL system — one contractor, one operation, from standing timber to sorted landing pile.
Contact
No office, no intake form. Call or email Sam — he'll come look at the job and tell you straight whether CTL is the right fit.
